How Does VCI Work?
When the VCI material is brought next to a metal surface the molecules that prevent corrosion are transformed into a vapor. The corrosion inhibiting vapor is then attracted to the metallic surface. The VCI molecules create a layer of 3-5 molecules across the surface of the metal. Despite the narrow layer of protection the metal is well guarded from corrosion because the molecules in place prevent oxidation and stop the flow of electrons in the metal, neutralizing the natural polarization of the metal. This combination, in addition to the protection against salt and dirt, effectively stops corrosion.
