Using dunnage airbags for load securement decreases the expense of shipping while increasing both efficiency and sustainability

food and beverage packaging dunnage airbagsThe beverage and bottling industry has many facets – all of which have shipping as a major component.  From bottle manufacturing to bottling to distribution, the name of the game is getting products to the end user in the most cost effective way possible, especially with so many different steps in the process.

Unlike the dry food industry, there are multiple locations that work in conjunction to get our favorite sodas or beers on the shelves of the location grocery store chains.  Shipping is integral and damage is a financial consideration.  Imagine the cost when you take into consideration the damage of one trailer full or product because of shifting pallets.  Or the lost opportunity of not being able to ship a full trailer because of weight considerations.

Dunnage airbags, properly applied, can help to combat both of those issues in a cost effective and sustainable way.

Dunnage airbags for the beverage industry

Excerpt from our Dunnage airbag white paper:

With the push for sustainability and lower costs, the plastic bottles manufactured today, especially for bottled water, are a much thinner plastic than they used to be, typically up to 50% less plastic. This thinner plastic, while great for the environment (and, most importantly, the bottom line), is much trickier to ship without damage. Shipping is hard on products, but the thinner the plastic, the more critical it is to remove any potential for movement. One example of this comes from one of the largest general retailers in the United States. By changing the thickness of cardboard used in packaging their bottles of water on pallets for distribution to their stores, they averaged the loss of about one third of their trailer loads due to bottle ruptures.
