Aerospace parts are now being packed into a 3-piece Premolded Foam Kit that provides greater protection as well as saving the skilled worker valuable time.

The problem with their previous packaging process was that too much highly skilled, highly paid labor time was spent packing parts. The packaging design consisted of 4# crosslink foam top and bottom inserts inside a corrugated box. Workers pulled three separate packaging items from inventory shelves before the boxes were erected at the pack station. The design required the worker to spend time making sure the part was properly centered in the top and bottom pads. Even with this costly time investment, packaging parts continued getting damaged in shipment with damage expenses exceeding ($20,000+ per part).

After consulting and ultimately engaging our experienced Logic packaging engineering service division, the packaging engineers developed customized pre-molded foam kits. The part orientation was changed inside the box making the finished pack far less top heavy. With these packaging engineering enhancements only one product SKU needed to be pulled from inventory and delivered to the packing station instead of three leading to fewer possible points of failure: The worker opens the box kit, removes the top pad, places the part inside the bottom pad and then simply replaces the top pad over the part before sealing the box. This new design fully encapsulates the part in foam packaging and allows the part to self center inside the box. As of yet there have been no damage reports.

  • Efficient: lets the skilled worker pack faster increasing output.
  • Higher quality due to easier more protective packing.
  • Cost effective: Saves countless time spent gathering and erecting a package

The Pre-molded Foam Kits continue to show increased profits after quickly delivering return on investment:

  • Faster pack out allows for higher supply with less work.
  • Delivers improved quality due to having a more protective package.
  • Immediate Cost savings with damage prevention eliminating need to repeatedly replace $20,000 per part.
  • New efficient design letting workers place parts in the packaging without having to first track down multiple items as well as build the package.

Total Packaging Cost Summary:

  • 41% material cost savings
  • 65% labor savings
  • 65% increase throughput
