Protecting toilet tanks during shipping

Item: Toilet tank and basin. Tank weight = 28 lbs. Basin weight = 64 lbs.

img8These units arrived in the manufacturers packaging palletized and secured with stretch film. The customer want to ship these components separately and eliminate shipping damage. Since there is no space for additional protective packaging in the box, the decision was made to pack the boxed units in an over box with protective cushioning around them.

The over box for the tank should measure 24” x 24” x 12”. The protective foam bottom pad was created using the Foam in place system. The bag is placed in a flat pad mold to make a 2” thick pad. The bottom pad is placed in the center of the box. Foam weight = .27 lbs.

The tank is placed on the bottom pad so that it is centered in the box. The tank pack is completed when four medium size wicketed bags are used to brace each corner. Foam weight .27 lbs (x4) = 1.1 lbs

The over box for the bowl should measure 24” x 36” x 24”. The protective foam bottom pad was created using a large (24” x 32”) size wicketed bag. The bag is placed in a flat pad mold to make a 3” thick pad. The bottom pad is placed in the center of the box. Foam weight = .47 lbs.

img12The tank is placed on the bottom pad so that it is centered in the box. The unit is braced with 4 large wicketed bags in each corner. Foam weight = .54 lbs (x4) = 2.2 lbs.

The pack is completed by placing a final large wicketed bag across the top of the unit. Foam weight = .47 lbs.

  • Foam weight of the tank pack = 1.4 lbs.
  • Foam weight for the bowl pack = 3.1 lbs.
  • Total foam weight = 4.5 lbs.
