A manufacturer/distributor of industrial parts had been using Ranpak TT paper void fill systems throughout its facility. Approximately a year ago, we visited the facility to demonstrate the original GeoSpeed® Quantum™ system. The company was interested in its features and benefits, but felt they needed a paper cutting system which is not a feature on the standard Quantum model.

With the development of the GeoSpeed® Quantum™ XF system, which added a power tear assist, feed‐to-length and optional multi‐stack accessories, the perfect opportunity was created to go back into the account to present the new options.

When the sales call was made, Pregis discovered that the company had been experiencing paper jams with the Ranpak system and had already decided to convert to Storopack. In fact, Storopack units were on site staged for imminent installation.

Seizing on a very small window of opportunity, we demonstrated the Quantum™ XF. The manufacturer immediately liked that the power tear assist and roll stacking features had been added on top of the other robust features.

The power tear assist option uses a blade-less mechanism which is designed to keep the operator safe and keep productivity at its peak, particularly for high volume packaging operations. The multi‐stack option allows the system to pull from multiple rolls of paper, reducing the number of roll changes and maximizing labor efficiencies.

Another reason for considering the conversion was that the manufacturer liked the benefits of switching to 45‐pound paper, from the 30‐pound type offered by both Ranpak and Storopack. This enables them to use a smaller amount of the heavier, 45‐pound paper to create void fill. The end result is a reduction in pack time and material usage. This was viewed not only as a productivity and packing improvement, but also as an asset in reducing employee fatigue.

Following a trial with Quantum XF table top units, the manufacturer asked Storopack to take back its machines. We placed 20 Quantum™ XF units with extremely positive feedback, exceeding the minimum usage target of 24 rolls per month per machine and generating sales in excess of $125K annually.
